What is a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist?
A cranial prosthesis specialist is a trained professional who designs and fits medical-grade wigs for individuals experiencing hair loss caused by medical conditions such as alopecia or cancer treatments. Also known as medical wig specialists, they complete a certification process to ensure they are skilled in crafting custom wigs that look and feel natural, providing both comfort and confidence to clients during challenging times. Their role includes educating clients on proper wig care and maintenance, as well as offering emotional support. These specialists may work in hospitals, medical clinics, or private practices, often collaborating with healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive patient care.
What is a Cranial Prosthesis Wig or hair unit?
A cranial prosthesis wig, also known as a medical wig or hair unit, a specially designed hair replacement system made for individuals who have lost their hair due to medical conditions or treatments such as alopecia, chemotherapy, radiation, or other health-related causes.
Unlike fashion wigs, cranial prostheses are custom-made and medically approved, using high-quality materials that are safe for sensitive scalps. They are designed to mimic natural hair growth, fit securely, and provide maximum comfort for daily wear.
They also are a great non-invasive alternative solution for hair loss patients.
Are these services covered by insurance?
Currently, we are not in network with any insurance companies. However, we do provide our clients with a Superbill, which is an itemized receipt that can be submitted directly to your insurance company for potential reimbursement of any out-of-pocket expenses related to consultation services and the purchase of cranial prosthesis wigs or hair units.
Many insurance providers offer coverage for cranial prostheses when hair loss is due to a medical condition or treatment, such as chemotherapy or alopecia. We offer assistance with contacting insurance to confirm eligibility and coverage details.
How can I determine which Cranial Prosthesis is right for me?
You must first consult with a dermatologist to obtain a prescription that identifies the specific type of medical hair loss you are experiencing. This documentation will assist the cranial prosthesis specialist in determining the most appropriate options to discuss during your consultation, ensuring that the selected solution best suits your individual hair loss needs.
I would the services but I do not live nearby?
We offer virtual services, including consultations and personalized assistance with cranial prosthesis selection. This allows clients to receive professional guidance and support from the comfort of their own home, no matter where home may be.
